Al Middlemiss

Al Middlemiss is a Pittsburgh-based artist whose work is deeply rooted in a traditional watercolor technique. A graduate from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and a self-described purist, Al is dedicated to the craft and often completes one or more pieces each week. His watercolors capture iconic, nostalgic scenes of Pittsburgh, historic landmarks to seasonal moments that evoke warmth and charm.
Al's work showcases how personal experiences, especially those that come from his creative partnership with his wife Patti, influence artistic expression. Al and Patti's creative partnership extends into a dedication teaching, where at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, they inspire the next generation of artists.
Through traditional watercolor, Al captures familiar scenes with warmth and intimacy, inviting viewers to reflect on memory and everyday beauty.
